Monitoring the Rangelands with Purpose

Contour Environmental and Agricultural Consulting provide a holistic and comprehensive landscape service.

Landscapes are at the heart of what we do. We have a passion for working with land managers to help maximise the productive and ecological capacities of their landscape.

The tool gives me repeatable data that I’m using to make sure my stock and pasture condition is being maintained and improved in both the short and long term. It’s easy to do the reassessments and doesn’t require time out of my day to make a special trip. I’m recommending it to all my neighbours and anyone else I meet!

Remotely Sensed Monitoring

Drone technology is increasingly accessible.

Managing rangelands condition is one of the most important issues for managing pastoral enterprises sustainably over the long term.

Contour Consulting have developed a powerful new tool.

Monitoring the Rangelands with Purpose

Remotely Sensed Monitoring

Drone technology is a rapidly growing industry and is becoming increasingly accessible.

Drones present an opportunity to gather information about your landscape in a repeatable, reliable and efficient way, and to use that information to make informed decisions about your landscape management.

With funding from the Southwest WA Drought Resilience and Innovation Adoption Hub, Contour Consulting have developed a powerful new tool that is pastoralist-friendly and allows for more informed pasture assessment and calibration of your stocking decisions.

The process is end-to-end, from establishing monitoring sites through to follow-up support, and is tailored to your property.

What you receive:

  • An initial consultation to select sites, discuss your objectives, and ensure the system will deliver data useful to you.
  • A Pasture Monitoring Package tailored to your property, including:
  • Fully programmed and functional drone flight paths to upload to your personal drone.
  • A calibrated spreadsheet to record your stocking rate/rainfall benchmarked against your preferred rate.
  • A site reassessment booklet detailing the sites, the indicators and the species present.
  • A detailed manual, allowing you to complete reassessments at your convenience.
  • Ongoing support.

Effective Records

Other Rangelands Monitoring

An important part of landscape management is developing and implementing a monitoring program that accurately and objectively records the trends and changes in range condition as a result of management choices.

Monitoring is also a required component of carbon projects. A monitoring program can be designed according to many different formats.

Contour Consulting has experience in the design and implementation of numerous monitoring systems including:

  • Photo point monitoring systems
  • Quadrat and transect monitoring systems
  • Remotely sensed monitoring

We work with you to design a system that scientifically delivers the data you require in the most simple way.

We understand you’re time poor and a monitoring system needs to fit within your other business activities.

Good for the environment.

Great for business.
